HCM City establishes Department of Food Safety

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on December 30 announced a decision to set up the city’s Department of Food Safety – the first of its kind in Vietnam.

HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on December 30 announceda decision to set up the city’s Department of Food Safety – the first of itskind in Vietnam.

Directly under the municipal People's Committee, the department has the function of advising and assisting the committee in state management of food safety. It is also put under the guidance, inspection and instructions of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Pham KhanhPhong Lan, head of the city’s Food Safety Management Board, was appointed director of the department.

Speakingat the announcement ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s CommitteeDuong Anh Duc hailed the results that the municipal Food Safety Management Boardachieved during its seven-year pilot starting 2016.

Duc alsoasked the newly-established department to soon perfect its organisation to well perform its mission, especially during the comingLunar New Year./.

Hanoi accelerates shift to green buses, targets 100% by 2030

In the 2027–2030 period, the city will accelerate the transition towards the complete phase-out of fossil fuel-powered buses. The share of electric and green energy-fueled buses is projected to reach 79–89% by 2029 and 100% by 2030.

Ho Chi Minh City greenlights central square, administrative centre in Thu Thiem

The new central city square and administrative centre will create a modern, centralised political-administrative complex for Ho Chi Minh City, designed to house around 8,000 officials, civil servants, and employees.
