The HCM City People’s Committee has increased water prices by 1,100-2,200 VND per cubic metre with effect from March 1.
The tariffs are based on the quantity used per capita: a household using less than 4cu.m a month per person will be charged 4,000VND for each cubic metre, 1,300 VND up from the current rate.
It will be 7,500 VND for 4 to 6cu.m and 10,000 VND for over 6 cu.m, an increase of 2,100 and 2,000VND, respectively.
A cubic metre will cost 6,700VND for factories, 7,100VND for administrative agencies, and 12,000VND for the service sector.
The committee has also announced a road map for further increases in the next three years, when water tariffs will go up by 400-1,700VND.
In districts of Thu Duc, 6, 8, and 11, mains water remains dirty while in some areas in districts 7, Nha Be and Can Gio, where the pipes do not reach, water dealers gouge people.
They carry water in tanks and sell it at 80,000 to 120,000VND per cubic metre./.
