HCM City most populous in Vietnam: official

HCM City (VNA) –
As of April 1, Ho Chi Minh City’s population was nearly 9 million,being the most populous locality of Vietnam, announced vice head of themunicipal Statistics Office Vo Thanh Sang on October 11.

At a conference toreview HCM City’s population and housing census in 2019, the official revealedthat the city’s population surged 1.8 million people from the 2009 figure.

At present, the city’srates of men and women are 48.7 percent and 51.3 percent, respectively. Itsaverage population growth rate hit 2.28 percent in the 10-year time until 2019.

Of the city’sdistricts, Tan Binh records the highest population of 784,000 people, while CanGio sees the lowest of nearly 72,000.

The city’s per capitalland area stands at 19.4 square metres. Notably, up to 99.3 percent out of the 2.5million families in the city are residing in stable houses.

The census looked intothe general situation of population, migration status, academic attainmentlevels, residency and people’s basic living conditions.

HCM City is the firstlocality of the country to apply information technology to collect informationin all steps of the census, as it was carried out with the help of computer-assistedpersonal interviewing (CAPI) technique and online surveys.

It is designed tosupport research and analyse population growth and housing issues to evaluatethe implementation of socio-economic development plans in the 2011-2015 andpolicy making in the 2016-2020 period./.

Vietnam accelerates repatriation of citizens detained in Myanmar
