The HCM City Open 2015 International Pentaque Championship kicked off on September 11 at the city’s Labour Cultural House in District 3.

The tournament attracted 260 competitors in 30 units from pentaque centres and clubs in HCM City, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Tra Vinh, Nghe An, Dong Nai, Hanoi, Bac Lieu, Binh Duong and Soc Trang.

Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Brunei also sent players to the tournament.

Contestants will compete in four events: the men’s triples, women’s triples, men’s technical shoot and women’s technical shoot.

The tournament, which will conclude on September 13, is expected to feature tough competition between local strong players and foreign participants who attended the Southeast Asian Games.

Pentaque has become popular in the southern region and especially in the Mekong Delta over the past few years.-VNA
