HCM City (VNA) – As many as 100,000 aid packages worth 30 billion VND (1.3 million USD) was delivered to Ho Chi Minh City on December 7 in support of locals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The packages were donated by the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) and the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB bank).

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Vice President of the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee Pham Minh Tuan expressed his gratitude toward the assistance, which he said is meaningful and practical.

The aid will be delivered to the targeted groups as soon as possible, he affirmed, wishing for further support to come in the future.

According to the official, the city now basically puts the disease under control, switches to safe and flexible adaptation to COVID-19, and sees socio-economic recovery. However, the epidemic's complicated developments continue with a high number of COVID-19 infections, negatively impacting the lives of local people, particularly the needy.

Since the beginning of 2021, the municipal VFF Committee has received about 4 trillion VND worth of donations in forms of financial assistance, goods, and medical equipment from public agencies, organisations, companies, and individuals in Vietnam and abroad. It has coordinated with other competent agencies to distribute goods valued over 411 billion VND and spend more than 1.055 trillion VND on COVID-19 prevention and control./.
