Hanoi (VNA) –
The Cotton Day 2017, the first of its kind in Vietnam, will takeplace in Ho Chi Minh City on September 12.

The event willbe jointly organised by the Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association (VCOSA),the Vietnam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS) and the US Cotton CouncilInternational (CCI) to connect Vietnamese firms in the industry for sustainablepartnership and development.

The Cotton Day2017 will include a seminar and a fashion show. The seminar is set to discussVietnam-US relations, Vietnam’s garment-textile industry and impacts from theUS trade policy, and purchase trends.

The Cotton Dayis one of CCI’s biggest events in Asia. The event was initiated in Japan in the1990s and has been held in the Republic of Korea, China, Thailand, andBangladesh.

According toVITAS, despite challenges facing Vietnam’s garment and textile sector,including pressure from anti-dumping tax on fibre in Turkey and India, thesector still earned 19.8 billion USD from exports in the first eight months of2017, up 9.9 percent year on year.-VNA

FDI disbursement in Jan–Feb reaches five-year high

Middle East tensions likely to have moderate impact on Vietnam’s economy: VinaCapital

According to Michael Kokalari, Director of Macroeconomic Analysis and Market Research at VinaCapital, the conflict is unlikely to significantly affect Vietnam. Exports to the Middle East account for less than 3% of Vietnam’s total export turnover, while the likelihood of a large-scale and prolonged ground campaign in Iran is considered relatively low.

Dak Lak reviews fishing vessel fleet, steps up fight against IUU fishing

Local authorities are focusing on managing registered fishing vessels and reviewing all records and data related to fishing, purchasing and processing seafood. Violations related to IUU fishing are being strictly handled under the principle of “facing the problem, not avoiding it”.

Vietnam, UK step up cooperation in derivatives commodity market development
