HCM City’s leaders meet overseas Vietnamese on eve of Tet

Ho Chi Minh City’s leaders on January 20 held a meeting with overseas Vietnamese who returned home to welcome the Lunar New Year festival (Tet).

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City’s leaders on January 20 held a meeting withoverseas Vietnamese who returned home to welcome the Lunar New Year festival(Tet).

Nguyen ThanhPhong, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, informed the overseasVietnamese about the city’s socio-economic achievements and hailed theircontributions to the southern hub by doing business, transferring technologiesand making recommendations to HCM City.

He called on theoverseas Vietnamese to continue upholding their patriotism, working as a bridgebetween Vietnam and other countries worldwide and joining hands to develop HCMCity into a modern and civilised city.

On behalf of theparticipants, Tran Hoang Minh, a Vietnamese expatriate from the US, thanked thelocal authorities for favourable conditions that they have created for overseasVietnamese to live, work and invest in the city.

Expressing hisimpression on Ho Chi Minh City’s positive changes, Minh stated that Vietnameseexpatriates always remember and are willing to contribute to their homeland.-VNA

Vietnam breaks ground on 72 boarding schools in border areas to advance equitable education

The simultaneous groundbreaking ceremony for 72 inter-level boarding schools combining primary and lower secondary education in land border communes took place on the morning of November 9. The event was broadcast live and connected with 14 locations via teleconferencing. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the main ceremony held at the Yen Khuong Primary and Lower Secondary Boarding School in Thanh Hoa province.

PM urges swift storm damage assessment, recovery in central region

The PM also directed localities to identify their needs for crop and livestock varieties and other essential materials for agricultural recovery, and to report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) prior to November 15 for prompt coordination and support.

Vietnamese community in Australia supports flood victims back home

The charity, registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), launched the campaign after Vietnam was struck by two severe typhoons, Bualoi and Matmo, in late September 2025, causing widespread damage across northern and central provinces.
