Hanoi (VNA) - The number of people suffering from pink-eye disease has increased rapidly in many localities in Vietnam due to the unpredictable pattern of weather, particularly the prolonged heat, said the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Health Ministry on June 29.
In order to prevent the disease, the department warns people to keep personal hygiene by washing hands with soap and clean water or avoiding sharing personal objects, such as towels, glasses or masks.
Pink-eye sufferers should reduce contact with others and come to medical stations for treatment.
Viral and bacterial pink-eye (conjunctivitis) are contagious and spread easily, particularly between summer and autumn in high humidity.
The disease has typical symptoms including redness in the eyes, swelling, itching or a burning feeling in the eyelids.
Currently there is no vaccine or specific medicine to treat the disease.-VNA
