“HeForShe” campaign launched in Vietnam

The “HeForShe” campaign, designed to raise the sense of responsibility among men and boys for eliminating discrimination against women and girls, was launched in Hanoi on March 6 in anticipation of International Women’s Day on March 8.
The “HeForShe” campaign, designed to raise the sense of responsibilityamong men and boys for eliminating discrimination against women andgirls, was launched in Hanoi on March 6 in anticipation of InternationalWomen’s Day on March 8.

The movement will becarried out between March and October 2015 by the United Nations Entityfor Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and theVietnam Volunteer Information Resource Centre (VVIRC).

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Shoko Ishikawa, a representativefrom the UN Women in Vietnam, said the campaign aims to call on peopleto join efforts to eliminate gender prejudice against women and girlsand bring about equality.

President of the VietnamYouth Federation Nguyen Phi Long called on Vietnamese youth to take partin the drive to promote gender equality.

Since themovement burst into life in September 2014 in New York, numerous Headsof state, chief executive officers of multinational groups, and hundredsof thousands of men from 169 countries worldwide have pledged to becomepioneers in the drive.

The campaign has stimulatedover 1.2 billion dialogues and debates on social media and is creatingpromising changes in the global gender equality movement.-VNA

The two gold medallists are Tran Trung Kien, a 12th grader from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, who scored 169.25 points, and Nguyen Ngo Duc, a 12th grader from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, who scored 151.05 points.
