Hanoi (VNA) - The ancient town of Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam will host a Hoi AnCommunity Eco Market on June 4, showcasing the talents of local creatives, cooks andphilanthropists.

The event’s organiserssaid the market aims to promote World Environment Day and showcase ethicallymade and sustainable homemade food and drink products, clothing, jewellery,accessories, art, homeware and vintage and second hand goods.

All products for salemeet the Community Eco Market’s strict environmental policy, guaranteeingshoppers can purchase unique creations without straining their wallets or theearth’s resources, according to the organisers.

They warned visitors tobring reusable bags or purchase an eco-friendly cloth bag at the market toensure the market is single-use plastic free.

The proceeds from theevent will be donated to Education for Nature Vietnam, an organisation whichinvestigates wildlife crimes in Vietnam.

The market will open from9am to 1pm at the Green Shoot International School at 414/7 Cua Dai Road. -VNA

Vietnamese pheasants successfully hatched at Belgian zoo

The chicks were born at Pairi Daiza’s Oasis greenhouse following a carefully monitored breeding and care programme. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Vietnamese pheasant is classified as Critically Endangered and may already be extinct in the wild.

In the appeal, the VFF Central Committee's Presidium noted that environmental protection has been identified by the Party and State as a strategic priority. The 14th National Party Congress highlighted the need to harmonise economic, cultural and social development with environmental protection and improvements in living standards.

Rare elongated tortoise released into the wild in Dong Nai

The elongated tortoise is one of the most beautiful and rare terrestrial tortoise species, listed in both the Vietnam Red Data Book and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. It typically inhabits tropical and subtropical forests and plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance. However, due to illegal trade and habitat loss, its wild population has been declining sharply.
