Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – A pedestrian road along the southern bank of Huong River, one of the most well-known destinations in Hue city in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, will be put into use on September 15.

Its construction started in February 2018 at a cost of over 52.9 billion VND (2.27 million USD) sponsored by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The project includes a 400m ironwood-floored pedestrian bridge, a wharf, an outdoor stage, lighting and traffic systems and a pedestrian street along the Huong riverbank from Phu Xuan bridge to Festival restaurant.

The road aims to connect Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street with Ly Tu Trong Park.

The bridge’s parquet floor, costing 5.14 billion VND (around 220,600 USD), uses ironwood which is said to be suitable to the city’s landscape and weather. The KOICA management board said the natural material is easy to process, woodworm-free, non-distorted in hot and humid weather, and has good bearing capacity.

The road is part of a planning project for 15 km of Huong riverbanks from Vong Canh hill to Bao Vinh ancient street. The project is estimated to cost 6 million USD funded by KOICA as non-refundable assistance.-VNA
