Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The biennial Hue Traditional Craft Festivalwrapped up on May 1, ending four festive days in the ancient capital city ofHue.
Speakingat the event, Nguyen Dang Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Hue city People’sCommittee highlighted that the seventh festival was a successful one.
He said the festival honoured the quintessence of Vietnamese craftsmanship,enhanced business efficiency of traditional crafts while speeding upcooperation in multi-faceted fields, especially promoting socio-economicdevelopment and branching out craft products along with tourism.
The festival affirmed its brand as well as prestige among local people,tourists and artisans across the country, he added.
This year event drew the participation of 327 craftsmen from 40 villages. Forthe first time, the festival saw the attendance of some craft villages locatedmiles away from Hue like Nam Cao and Mai Chau weaving villages in from thenorth provinces of Thai Binh and Hoa Binh, My Thien pottery village in thecentral province of Quang Ngai and other pottery villages from the Mekong Deltaprovince of Vinh Long.
Thirty-four artisans from Japan, China and the Republic of Korea took part inthe event.
Thefestival was nailed with such key activities as Ao dai (traditional long dress)fashion show on the city’s iconic Truong Tien bridge, exhibition honouringartisans and traditional crafts at Ly Tu Trong park, balloon festival, Huecuisine festival and activities to popularise tourism of some connectinglocalities on Nguyen Dinh Chieu walking street.
The event is touted as a highlight in the heritage journey in the centralregion, making contributions to promoting regional tourism growth.-VNA
