Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano has reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to prioritise supporting Vietnam in improving its legal framework and personnel training in the nuclear power field.
At a recent meeting with the Vietnamese Permanent Representative to the IAEA, Ambassador Vu Viet Anh, who came to present his credentials, Amano highlighted fruitful cooperation between his agency and Vietnam and the country’s contributions to the IAEA’s activities over the years.
The IAEA Director General thanked Vietnam for fulfilling its mission as the Chair of the IAEA Board of Governors for the 2013-2014 term while recalling his good impression on the Vietnam trip in early this year as well as the country’s nuclear power programme.
For his part, the Vietnamese diplomat stressed the country’s orientations for the use of nuclear energy with the highest safety standards.
They also discussed ways to further promote bilateral cooperation with focus on intensive training courses on for Vietnamese legal staff.
In addition to bilateral issues, they exchanged views on latest developments relating to the nuclear situations of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Iran and the Middle East issue.-VNA
