- Party General Secretary To Lam presented the decision to assign Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee, and Chairman of the committee’s Inspection Commission, to take the position of the permanent member of the 13th Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 25.

Tu succeeds Luong Cuong who was elected by the National Assembly as the State President earlier this week. Read full story

- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the expanded BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 24 evening (local time).

President Putin expressed his appreciation for the warm reception offered by the Party, State, and people of Vietnam during his state visit to the Southeast Asian nation in June 2024, noting this reflected the strong and faithful bond between the two countries. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his entourage returned to Hanoi at noon on October 25, concluding their working trip to attend the expanded BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, made on October 23-24 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chair of BRICS 2024.

While there, Chinh had a busy schedule with 25 activities. In addition to the Expanded BRICS Summit events, he held bilateral meetings with over 30 heads of delegations and leaders from countries and international organisations, including the Party General Secretary and President of China; the Party General Secretary and President of Laos; the Presidents of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Belarus, and Uzbekistan; the Secretary-General of the United Nations; and the Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission. - Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office covering the Indo Pacific Catherine West co-chaired the 10th Vietnam-UK Strategic Dialogue in Hanoi on October 24.

During the event, both sides expressed their delight at the sound development of the two countries’ strategic partnership in all areas, such as politics - diplomacy, trade-investment, security-defence, education-training, sci-tech, climate change response, culture and people-to-people exchange. - Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, proposed a number of solutions for sustainable urban development at the 19th Global Forum on Migration and Development in New York on October 24.

Addressing the event as a keynote speaker, Giang said that first, urban development initiatives and practices need to be linked to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 11 on sustainable cities and communities, as well as the UN New Urban Agenda to accelerate sustainable urban development at the global, regional and national levels. - The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in collaboration with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group launched the seventh press photo contest titled “Khoanh khac vang” (Golden Moment) on October 24 to honour excellent photographers and their press works that capture impressive moments of the country’s development.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang expressed her hope that the contest will continue to be a playground that attracts the participation of many journalists and photographers, contributing to the development of the press photography and improvement of the efficiency of the information and popularisation work in the new period. - An exchange programme was held in Hanoi on October 25 by the Ministry of Defence’s Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), along with the opening of a photo exhibition themed “Vietnamese female military personnel in United Nations peacekeeping operations”.

The programme served as a forum for sharing experiences and exploring new methods to enhance understanding of the contributions of female military personnel to UN peacekeeping operations, thus increasing and promoting their meaningful participation in these activities. Read full story

- The Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) handed over a certificate to the National Economics University (NEU) and 15 training programmes of the university for meeting its educational institution quality standards, at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 24.

NEU is one of the first universities in Vietnam to complete FIBAA’s quality accreditation process, meeting and exceeding 100% of the required standards, and also to complete the foundation's quality accreditation process with 100% of criteria meeting and exceeding standards. Read full story

- The national e-commerce week will take place from November 25 to December 1, while the Vietnam Online Friday 2024 will run from the beginning of November 29 to noon of December 1, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The events will be held on the national scale.

The largest online shopping programme in Vietnam will provide e-commerce and digital technology experiences, aiming to stimulate domestic consumption, increase public awareness of e-commerce, promote the development of infrastructure and digital technology solutions, and support businesses to participate in building a sustainable e-commerce market in Vietnam. - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has urged proactive response to the looming threat of Typhoon Trami, which is barreling toward Vietnam's central coast.

In a directive to the chairpersons of the People's Committees of the provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen, the city of Da Nang, and the ministries of National Defence, Public Security, Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Industry and Trade, Transport, Construction, and Foreign Affairs, he underscored the imminent danger and outlined critical measures to mitigate its impact. - Vietnam’s motorcycle market has shown positive signs after a period of stagnation, expected to heat up in the year-end peak shopping season.

According to the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), its five members – Honda, Yamaha, Piaggio, SYM and Suzuki sold a total of 686,001 vehicles in Quarter 3, up 13.74% against the previous quarter and 12.34% year-on-year. This was the highest sales figure recorded from the outset of the year, marking the market growth amidst intense pressure from expanding automobile and electric motorcycle markets./. Read full story
