- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Kazan city of Russia on October 23 morning local time), beginning his two-day trip to attend the expanded BRICS Summit, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, Chair of BRICS 2024.

Welcoming Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation at the airport were the Prime Minister of Tatarstan, the First Deputy Mayor of Kazan, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi, among others. Read full story

- State President Luong Cuong, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Party and State leaders as well as NA deputies on October 23 visited an exhibition featuring the “Nhat bao Quoc hoi (National Assembly Daily) with the first general election (in 1946).

The exhibition, held by the NA Office to mark the 80th anniversary of the first Election Day of the Vietnamese National Assembly (January 6, 1946), is organised on the sidelines of the ongoing eighth session of the 15th NA. Read full story

- National Assembly deputies will continue discussing several important issues at the ongoing eighth session of the 15th parliament on October 23, including the draft juvenile justice law and the draft cultural heritage law.

- Vietnam’s candidacy to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026-2035 tenure aims to contribute further to the efforts in strengthening the rule of law globally, according to Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN).

Attending a recent debate on the rule of law at the national and international levels, held by the Sixth Committee on Legal Affairs of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Giang said that continuing its active participation in international legal forums, Vietnam has, for the first time, nominated Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Anh, Director of the East Sea Institute, to stand for election to the organisation. - Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Do Minh Hung had a working session with Speaker of the UK House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle in London on October 22, emphasising the priority of promoting inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.

The cooperation covers delegation exchanges at all levels, law building, experience sharing, mutual support at international forums, coordination in addressing regional and global issues, and people-to-people exchanges. Read full story

- The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Publishing House on October 23 organised a ceremony to launch a book entitled “Truyen ve Tong Bi thu Nguyen Phu Trong” (stories of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong) by Korean author Cho Chulhyeon, on the occasion of 100 days since the late Party leader passed away.

The 344-page book spotlighted General Secretary Trong’s life from his childhood, his time in schools and his career through different positions, including Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee (2000-2006), Chairman of the National Assembly (2006-2011), and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures. - The year-end festive season is expected as a stimulus to boost Vietnam’s exports of aquatic products despite various challenges, according to experts.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported that as of the end of September, seafood exports were estimated at 7.7 billion USD, mostly shrimps and tra fish. Read full story

- Vietnam head coach Cristiano Roland has finalised the name of 23 players for the squad attending Group I of the AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers in the northern province of Phu Tho.

- Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc has signed a decision issuing a national strategy on the application and development of blockchain technology until 2025 with a vision to 2030, with an aim to turn Vietnam into a leading country in the region with an international position in researching, deploying, applying, and exploiting blockchain technology.

The strategy targets to ensure Vietnam is capable of mastering and applying blockchain technology in all socio-economic fields, realising the goal of becoming a stable and prosperous digital nation./. Read full story

10th session helps strengthen public trust in personnel work, NA’s supreme oversight

Personnel consolidation carried out at the NA's 10th session helps ensure continuous, unified, effective, and efficient leadership of the state apparatus; guarantee smooth and uninterrupted direction and governance; and prevent any leadership gaps in critical areas. National Assembly passes laws on finance, agriculture, environment

The National Assembly (NA) passed the Law on Recovery and Bankruptcy, the law amending and supplementing several articles of the Law on Value-Added Tax, and another law introducing changes to various articles in 15 different laws related to agriculture and the environment.

Vietnam, Japan eye stronger naval cooperation

National Assembly passes many laws, resolutions in 10th session’s final sitting

Accordingly, the legislature agreed to expand healthcare benefits and reduce medical costs for the people. It approved a roadmap toward providing free basic hospital services within the coverage of health insurance, in line with the country’s socio-economic conditions, the financial capacity of the health insurance fund, and future premium adjustments.
