Hanoi (VNA) - The Supreme People’s Procuracy has accomplishedan indictment involving Phan Van Anh Vu, known as Vu Nhom and high-ranking officersof the Ministry of Public Security for their violations in the purchase andsale of State-owned houses and land in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the indictment, itwas an “extremely serious corruption case” that caused public concern involvinghigh-ranking officers of the Ministry of Public Security, causing huge lossesto the State budget.

The ministry’s former generaldirector Tran Viet Tan, and former director Bui Van Thanh were prosecuted for“showing irresponsibility, causing serious consequences” in line with Article285 of the 1999 Criminal Code. 

Phan Van Anh Vu; Nguyen Huu Bach, a former officerand Phan Huu Tuan, former deputy generaldirector of Ministry of Public Security, were charged with “abusing positionand power while performing duties” in line with Article 356 of the 2015Criminal Code.

According to the indictment, VuNhom abused his power, along with support of Bach and Tuan, hired, purchasedand transferred houses without auctions and not in line with State regulations.He then made them his own properties or his relatives’ or transferred themunder the ownership of other people to earn illegal profits, causing a loss ofmore than 1,159 billion VND (50 million USD) to the State budget.

Both Bach and Tuan causedlosses of more than 1,134 billion VND (48.9 million USD) in total.

Bui Van Thanh was prosecutedfor lacking responsibilities in supervising housing prices and allowing Vu tocommit illegal transfer, causing a loss of over 222 billion VND (9.6 millionUSD).

Tran Viet Tan showedirresponsibility in management that created conditions for Vu to abuse hisposition and power. The loss Tan caused was over 155 billion VND (6.7 millionUSD).

On December 14, the Investigation Police Agency under the Ministryof Public Security started criminal proceedings against Thanh and Tan for showing irresponsibility, causing seriousconsequences.

Earlier, Thanh had been dismissed from his postas Deputy Minister of Public Security, and Tan was stripped of his title asformer Deputy Minister of Public Security in the 2011-2016 tenure.-VNA

FLC appeal hearing postponed, giving more time for compensation
