Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesia and Bangladesh inked five cooperation deals on fishing, trade, diplomacy, energy and the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) during Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s trip to Bangladesh from January 28.
The agreements were signed after talks between the host’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Indonesian President in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka.
Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation signed a deal to purchase LNG with its Indonesian partner Pertamina.
With a population of more than 160 million people, Bangladesh needs to import 17.5 million tonnes of LNG per year. The country earlier signed a LNG import agreement with Qatar, showing its position as an emerging market for energy consumption.
Earlier, Widodo paid a two-day state visit to Pakistan to bolster cooperation between the countries with the world’s largest Muslim populations.-VNA
