Jakarta (VNA) – Cooperation in terrorism eradication between Indonesia and Egypt has been further bolstered through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Counter-terrorism Agency of Indonesia (BNPT) and the Ministry of Interior of Egypt.

The MoU was signed by head of BNPT Suhardi Alius and Minister of Interior Affairs of Egypt Major General Mahmoud Tawfik in Cairo, Egypt.

Suhardi explained that the radical terrorist network in Indonesia is heavily influenced by the development of the global terrorist network, especially in the Middle East.

It is unsurprising that Indonesia’s radical terrorist group joined forces of the self-claimed Islamic States (ISIS), he said.

He cautioned that radical groups have changed their strategy in recruiting supporters of their actions and use the social media to recruit, brainwash, propagate, and transfer their ideology, adding that is an easy alternative for radical groups to spread their influence transnationally.

Suhardi said that the time has come for Indonesia and Egypt to work as a unity in fighting terrorism.

Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Helmy Fauzi said that either Indonesia or Egypt can learn from each other’s experience to improve counter-terrorism efforts considering that terrorism is a transnational crime.
