Indonesia holds potential for producing biotech-based medicines

Jakarta (VNA) –  Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin hasdeemed biodiversity as a vital asset for Indonesia to become abiotechnology-based medicine producer in the near future.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 57th anniversary of National Health Day on November 12, Sadiki said in the western part ofIndonesia, the flora and fauna resemble the Asian biodiversity, while those inthe eastern part are the genomic-based ones in Australia.

The existing biodiversity wealth and genomicdiversity will be determining factors in making Indonesia one of thebiotechnology-based medicine producers in the future, he said.

He added that health technology becomes one of the six health service systemtransformations to soon be conducted in the country.

The health industry in the near future willalso be massively transformed with the help of advanced information technology,either the diagnostic sides, screening, or delivery services to the public./.
