Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo made an official visit to Iran on December 14 to discuss cooperation.

In their meeting, Indonesian President Joko Widod and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani discussed measures to promote bilateral cooperation.

The two Presidents witnessed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding between the two countries on extradition, judicial assistance and cooperation in electricity and investment.

The Indonesian leader also met Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini and other officials.

Indonesia and Iran established diplomatic ties in 1950 and in August this year, Indonesia announced that it will soon make a decision on cooperation with Iran in building an oil refinery in Indonesia.

The plant is planned to be built on Java island and is scheduled to be completed after four or five years, at a cost of about 8.4 billion USD.-VNA
