Jakarta (VNA) – Head of the Education Research Centre under the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Trina Fizzanty on November 12 emphasised the urgent need to tackle bullying in schools.
Fizzanty warned that a negative school environment can have long-lasting consequences for children. Bullying is a serious issue for children.
She said that bullying is an aggressive behavior, psychological and/or physical, that is usually carried out repeatedly by a perpetrator toward a victim. It often stems from unequal social relationships.
The official emphasised the importance of creating a school environment that is not only comfortable but also safe and friendly for children so they feel happy while participating in learning.
Besides, Fizzanty stressed the importance of inclusive education so children understand that social, economic, and physical diversity is a part of the world they must face. It is necessary to identify the root causes of bullying, rather than simply blaming the child, enabling the development of effective solutions.
According to the official, teachers also need to build awareness of professional ethical standards, while effective penalties or deterrent measures should be in place for offenders. She stressed that ending school violence requires the cooperation of all stakeholders, including schools, teachers, parents, and students./.
