Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia has recently ratified a quota-based fishing policy, according to Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.

Speaking at the 2023 technical meeting on maritime and fisheries resources monitoring on March 7, the minister stated that the policy had been ratified one day earlier.

Trenggono instructed the Director General of Fishing to formulate the derivative or technical regulations of that policy, which is necessary to maintain the sustainability of marine organisms.

Three types of quota are detailed in the measured fishing policy, namely the fishing quota for fish catchers; quota for locals living by the shores; and quota for educational, training, and services.

It also defines that there are 11 fish-catching areas and six zones across the Indonesian territory./.
