Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian authorities said on August 21 that Indonesia has simultaneously sunk 125 foreign ships for illegal fishing in the country’s territorial waters.
Indonesian Marine and Fisheries Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said the act aimed at giving deterrent effect. She pinned hope that no foreign boat dares to enter Indonesian waters for illegal fishing.
The sinking of 125 vessels took place in 11 different locations across the nation on August 20.
Since 2014, Indonesian authorities have drowned a total of 488 violating ships, she added.
The minister stressed that Indonesia will increase measures to protect its sea areas from illegal fishing by foreign-flagged boats.-VNA
