Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo called for efforts of lawmakers to accelerate discussion for revision of the anti-terrorism bill, aiming to create an official legal framework for the country’s counter-terrorism activities.
Indonesian Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said that the recent attacks in Indonesia and danger of terrorism have enhanced the need to revise the anti-terrorism law of Indonesia.
The draft should define security officers’ role and their rights to promptly stop terrorism activities, he added.
In a short speech during his visit to the scene of the twin bombings in Kampung Melayu, east of Jakarta on May 25, President Joko Widodo also stressed his hope that the completion of the law will create favourable conditions for law enforcement agencies to prevent risks of terrorism.
Since the Bali attack in 2002 which claimed more than 200 lives, Indonesia has taken many security measures.-VNA
