Jakarta (VNA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia set a target to welcome 1.8 – 3.6 million foreign vistors in 2022.

According to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia will focus on quality and sustainable tourism amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that Indonesia has planned to serve 260-280 million domestic visitors in 2022, and lift the added value of the creative economy to over 1.23 trillion rupiah (87 million USD).

Meanwhile, deputy for strategic policy affairs at the ministry Kurleni Ukar said the ministry had agreed with the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) to not set a high target for the tourism sector.

However, she expressed her hope that international events planned for next year will contribute to increasing foreign currency revenue for the Southeast Asian nation.

According to Kurleni, Bali continues to be the most popular destination among international visitors, especially those from Australia, India and Japan. Meanwhile, Malaysian and Singaporean tourists are still the main target for Batam and Bintan.

For her part, deputy for marketing at the ministry Nia Niscaya affirmed that Indonesia’s target tourism markets in 2022 is very “dynamic” as the country continues to adjust its policy based on COVID-19 developments globally./.
