Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives Marzuki Alie has spoken highly of Vietnam’s efforts to host the ongoing 31 st General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-31) in Hanoi.
“We were impressed with the arrangement and serious efforts made by the Vietnam National Assembly and Organising Committee to make not only the general assembly of AIPA, but also the AIPA meetings successful,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the AIPA meeting in Hanoi on September 22.
In the period of Vietnam chairmanship, a lot of programmes and meetings have been successfully conducted such as AIPA meeting with the ASEAN Leaders in Hanoi in April and the AIPA seminar on the role of parliamentarians after the financial-economic crisis and the issue of sustainable development in Da Nang in March, he said.
The speaker, in capacity of head of Indonesian delegation to the AIPA-31, expressed his high appreciation for the AIPA-31 theme “Solidarity for the sustainable development of ASEAN Community”.
“The theme is very relevant because we strongly believe that each ASEAN member state and all members of parliaments of ASEAN play significant roles in the creation of regional peace and stability,” he said.
The Indonesian speaker also stressed significant improvements in the two legislatures’ bilateral relations.
There was a “high intensity” of mutual visits between senior officials of the two parliaments visit such as the official to Vietnam last April by the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the official visit to Indonesia last February by Vietnam National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, the Indonesian speaker said.
He took this opportunity to thank for the warm welcome and hospitability extended to the Indonesian delegation to the AIPA-31 and congratulate Vietnam for the millennial anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi./.
