The industrial sector’s growth continued rising, despite the impact of the global economic crisis, markedly contributing to the country’s economic recovery.

According to the General Statistics Office, the country’s industrial production value in the first ten months of the year reached about 569 trillion VND (31.6 billion USD), a year-on-year increase of 7 percent.

Industrial production value increased 6.5 percent year-on-year in nine months, 4.8 percent in six months and 2.1 percent in three months.

The non-state sector saw a growth of nearly 9 percent making up 35 percent of the sector’s value. The state-owned sector recorded a 7.4 percent increase and the foreign-invested sector, 3.6 percent.

Numerous industrial products achieved high increases, including air conditioners (48 percent), refrigerators (31 percent), crude oil (16 percent), cement (19 percent) and steel (19 percent).

The achievements were attributed to many programmes to promote made-in-Vietnam products and Government policies to encourage enterprises to pay more attention to the domestic market.

However, the growth was still much lower than the yearly target of 16.5 percent.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Huu Hao, enterprises should take the advantages of policies to help improve competitiveness, promote their products and focus on speeding up investment in key projects in order to boost capacity for 2010.

In addition, the official said, enterprises need to keep close watch on the market situation to actively solve problems which could affect production and domestic consumption.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment predicted that as the world economy is in recovery, the Government’s stimulus policy would facilitate industrial production in the remaining months of the year.

The industrial sector is expected to earn about 694 trillion VND (38.5 billion USD) for the whole year, a 7.2 percent increase over 2008./.
