The third Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) opened in Hanoi on April 23, focusing on seeking measures and policies to improve the output and quality for agricultural production activities in the region.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat said it offered a good chance for its member nations to share information and experience in the field, thus further fostering cooperation among them in the future.

In order to improve the efficiency in agricultural production activities, Vietnam is speeding up restructuring of the sector, with focus given to the application of scientific advances and technologies, Phat stated.

According to Nguyen Van Bo, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the event will help look for solutions for issues related to climate change, food safety, and food and nutrition security.

Established in 2009 as an initiative of the Republic of Korea ’s Government, the AFACI works to promote sustainable agricultural growth in the Asian region, contributing to the consistent economic development of member nations through technological cooperation in the agricultural and food sectors.

As many as 13 Asia countries have joined the AFACI, including Bangladesh , Cambodia , Indonesia , the RoK and Vietnam.-VNA
