The International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) Conference opened in the central city of Da Nang on October 8, offering a good chance for foreign and domestic statisticians to share experience and establish ties in the field.
The three-day biennial event focuses discussions on major issues relating to the efficient use of resources, advanced technology and new information sources, and the establishment of a wider partnership network in the field.
Addressing the opening session, Nguyen Bich Lam, Director General of the Vietnam General Statistics Office (GSO), stressed that official statistics were an essential source of information for policy-makers and investors to develop laws and policies in their fields of work, which substantially contributed to socio-economic development.
Themed “meeting the demands of a changing world”, the conference drew about 200 international and 100 Vietnamese officials and researchers working in the field.
