Int’l media spotlights Dien Bien Phu Victory

The Dien Bien Phu Victory continues to inspire oppressed peoples worldwide to fight for independence and freedom. Seventy years on, this shining milestone of the Vietnamese people retains its timeless significance and remains a radiant symbol in the liberation movements. Such assessments have been the focal point of media attention in many countries in recent days.

The Lao News Agency's Pathet Lao newspaper echoed this sentiment with a front-page article the same day. Declaring May 7 a "historic day for the people of the three Indochinese countries”, the article underlined the invaluable lessons the Dien Bien Phu Victory imparted on the national liberation movements in the region, including the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

The Lao national radio and television network also joined the celebratory chorus, dedicating considerable airtime to broadcasting news and articles related to the anniversary events. They gave much praise to this victory that “resounded across the five continents and shook the globe”.

Several major Argentine newspapers ran articles about Vietnam's Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The Ámbito Internacional newspaper ran an article affirming that the Dien Bien Phu Victory marked the worst defeat of colonialism, and that 70 years have passed, the great stature and historical significance of this victory still retains its value.

According to Radio National Argentina, the Dien Bien Phu victory 70 years ago created a premise for the signing of the Geneva agreements on ending war and restoring peace in Indochina.

The victory contributed greatly to the progress of humanity, and proved the truth that oppressed and invaded peoples will definitely win if they have a strong will and a correct and creative path, and know how to unite and fight for independence and freedom.

The Granma daily, the newspaper of the Communist Party of Cuba, on May 7 ran an article about the contributions of pack-bikes to the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

As described in the Granma’s article, Vietnamese people, like ants diligently transporting pieces of food back to their nests, transported food, supplies and weapons to the front to support Dien Bien soldiers without being detected.

According to the article, there were many reasons for the Dien Bien Phu Victory, and one of important and decisive reasons is the great support from the rear, both materially and spiritually./.
