Irish Government funds poverty reduction in Vietnam

The Irish Government has pledged a funding of nearly 13.3 million EUR (18.2 million USD) to poverty reduction programme 135 in eight Vietnamese provinces during the 2013-2015 period.

The Irish Government haspledged a funding of nearly 13.3 million EUR (18.2 million USD) topoverty reduction programme 135 in eight Vietnamese provinces during the2013-2015 period.

Under an agreement to this effect signed inHanoi on December 13, the funding will go to ethnic communities inthe northern provinces of Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Dien Bien and Bac Can,the central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Quang Ngai, the CentralHighlands province of Kon Tum and the southern province of TraVinh .

Each year, both Governments will be responsible forchecking if the sum is used properly, ensuring that any problem arisingalong the way will be settled soon.

Speaking at the signingceremony, Vice Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic AffairsSon Phuoc Hoan asked ministries, agencies and localities to utilise thefunding efficiently.

Irish Ambassador to Vietnam Damien Colereiterated his government’s strong support for Vietnam’s povertyreduction programme towards bettering the lives of millions of people,especially ethnic minorities, who are living under the poverty line, inthe coming time.-VNA

National, local traffic safety committees to be dissolved from June 1

Under the dicision, ministries and ministerial-level agencies will assume responsibility for tasks previously performed by the committee, in line with their mandates under the Law on Government Organisation, the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, the Law on Roads and other relevant legal frameworks, ensuring that traffic safety and order are maintained without disrupiton.
