Italians who love Vietnam have a good chance to study the country’s contemporary history via 5,000 books on display at a library in Allerona city, central Italy.
The books were written, translated and collected by Pino Tagliazucchi, one of the leading Italian researchers on Vietnam , and his daughter Nora.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony on February 22, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Long noted that Pino, a great friend of the Vietnamese people, wrote and translated many books about Vietnam ’s history, literature and folk culture.
Highlighting Pino’s active role as a member of the Italy -Vietnam Friendship Association, Long expressed his belief that the library will help further the cooperation between Vietnam and Italy as well as Allerona city in particular.
Nora Tagliazzucchi, Pino Tagliazzucchi’s daughter, said his father spent all of his life studying different countries, but he had a special place in his heart for Vietnam .
When he passed away, he left a huge number of books relating to Vietnam. His first book was about Dien Bien Phu and two others about President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap. All received high recognitions from the public.
She revealed that she herself has also collected documents for many years to establish this library. “It is not only to fulfill my father’s wish, but is also what I have to do for the future generation” she said.
More than 5,000 books – all in good condition – written and collected by Pino Tagliazucchis during his whole life are now valuable public property.
According to Valentino Rocchigiani, Mayor of Allerona city, the library will be a significant place for people in Allerona and Vietnam to exchange culture and knowledge.
He said that the city will create every possible condition for the library’s display, which will help promote Vietnamese culture in the city and foster cooperation between the two nations.-VNA
