A meeting to mark the 64 th anniversary of Italy becoming a republic (June 2) was held by the Vietnam-Italy Friendship Association (VIFA) in Hanoi on May 31.
The Deputy President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Tran Dac Loi, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrea Perugini, representatives from the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plus numerous Vietnamese students of the Italian language attended the event.
At the meeting, VIFA Chairman Bui Ba Bong and Ambassador Perugini reviewed the recent developments in ties between the two countries and praised Italy ’s position and role in the European Union and the world. Both countries have entered a new era of friendship and cooperation since State President Nguyen Minh Triet made an official visit to Italy last year. On the occasion, Bong, on behalf of the Vietnamese people, thanked the Italian Government and its people for their solidarity and valuable support to Vietnam during its past struggle for independence as well as in national construction./.
