Japan helps upgrade flood-hit Mekong delta

Anexchange note to this effect was signed in Hanoi on Mar. 21 betweenMinister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and JapaneseAmbassador to Vietnam Tanizaki Yasuaki.

Addressing the signingceremony, Minister Phat highly appreciated Japan’s assistance toVietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development inparticular, in overcoming consequences of natural calamities.

Betweensix and eight major storms hit Vietnam each year, causing human andproperty losses estimated at one percent of the country’s GDP, theministry added.

Ambassador Tanizaki Yasuaki said he believed thatthrough Japan’s assistance and Vietnam’s efforts, living conditions ofpeople in affected areas will be restored soon and a mechanism fornatural disaster control will be improved, protecting people’s lives./.
