The Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association marked its 55 th anniversary in Tokyo on March 20.
Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association Nghiem Vu Khai and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh were among others to attend the celebration.
Addressing the function, Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association Prof. Motoo Furuta reviewed the association’s activities over the last 55 years, including campaigns to support Vietnam’s resistance war against American imperialists and boost people-to-people exchanges to enhance mutual understanding between the two countries.
The association has also called for support to Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange and joined efforts to preserve Hoi An ancient town and campaign for its recognition as the world’s cultural heritage, he said.
Chairman Nghiem Vu Khai of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association said the Vietnam-Japan relations have seen developments in all fields, describing the Japan visit by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh last April as a landmark in development of the “strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia" between the two countries.
Japan has always been Vietnam’s largest ODA provider and top trade partner and investor, he affirmed.
Khai also said he hoped that the two friendship associations would strengthen cooperation and act as a bridge to facilitate political, economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries./.
