Japanese renowned calligrapher Takeda Souun will demonstrate his techniques and hold a workshop titled The power of Calligraphy, at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on August 17.

He will also hold an open discussion with calligrapher Trung Hieu and members of Vietnam’s UNESCO Calligraphy Club.

A similar event will take place in the meeting hall at Hoai River Square, Hoi An city, in the central province of Quang Nam on August 24 and 25, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Japan-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

Souun is a famous calligrapher who was appointed Japanese Culture Envoy for 2013 by Japan’s many demonstrations and lectures on calligraphy, as well as producing writings for various events around the world.

He has also worked alongside various artist including musicians and sculptor and has put on many original exhibitions, attracting large crowds around the world. This is the first time he has come to Vietnam to put his calligraphy on display and hold demonstrations and workshops.

Calligrapher Hieu is well known for appearing on television and in the theatre.

He won the prize for best actor at the 2009 Vietnam Film Festival and 2012 Actor of the Year by the Vietnam Stage Artists Association. He started studying calligraphy in 2011 and has become one of the most talented calligrapher from the Vietnam Young Calligraphy Club.-VNA
