Japanese FM makes visit to Vietnam

Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Katsuya Okada will pay a bilateral visit to Vietnam on July 24 after attending the ASEAN Related Foreign Ministers’ meetings in Hanoi from July 19-23, said a Japanese diplomat.

Deputy Press Secretary and DeputyDirector General of the Public Diplomacy Department under the JapaneseMinistry of Foreign Affairs Hidenobu Sobashima told reporters thatOkada’s visit aims to further strengthen the relationship with Vietnamas a Japan ’s strategic partner.

“We attachimportance to the relationship with Vietnam , we have a strategicpartnership and we look forward to having strategic partnershipdialogues as well,” said Sobashima.

“We lookforward to further enhancing the relationship with Vietnam because theimportance of Vietnam in ASEAN and Mekong sub-region,” added thediplomat.

During his visit, Okada will meet DeputyPrime Minister and Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem todiscuss concrete areas of cooperation.

He will alsovisit several economic cooperation project sites to aim even moreeffective utilisation of Japan ’s ODA to Vietnam./.

During the event, the Vietnamese delegation met with major French defence firms, including Airbus and UNAC, to discuss technology transfer, human resource training, technical support and defence industry development.
