Japanese FM makes visit to Vietnam

Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Katsuya Okada will pay a bilateral visit to Vietnam on July 24 after attending the ASEAN Related Foreign Ministers’ meetings in Hanoi from July 19-23, said a Japanese diplomat.

Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Director General of the Public Diplomacy Department under the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hidenobu Sobashima told reporters that Okada’s visit aims to further strengthen the relationship with Vietnam as a Japan ’s strategic partner.

“We attach importance to the relationship with Vietnam , we have a strategic partnership and we look forward to having strategic partnership dialogues as well,” said Sobashima.

“We look forward to further enhancing the relationship with Vietnam because the importance of Vietnam in ASEAN and Mekong sub-region,” added the diplomat.

During his visit, Okada will meet Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem to discuss concrete areas of cooperation.

He will also visit several economic cooperation project sites to aim even more effective utilisation of Japan ’s ODA to Vietnam./.
