Over 30 paintings featuring the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam by Japanese artist Toba Mika, are being displayed at an exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City on November 22.
Jointly organised by the Japanese Consulate General in the city and the municipal Fine Art Museum, the exhibition, which will run until December 15, is one of the many activities celebrating the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.
Mika painted the works from memory, primarily using the Katazome dyeing technique, during the 20 years following her first visit to Vietnam.
Vietnam’s scenes and the local idyllic life are a recurrent theme in her artistic oeuvre.
Born in 1961 in Aichi prefecture, Toba Mika currently lectures at the Kyoto City University of Arts.
Her contributions to promoting the Vietnam-Japan friendship have been officially acknowledged with a medal from Vietnam ’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism./.
