CanTho (VNA) – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and theConstruction Ministry co-hosted a training conference for the project “Strengtheningcapacity of cost estimation, contract management, quality and safety ofconstruction works” in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on June 23.

Theproject was launched in April 2015 and is scheduled to last till March 2018.

Accordingto JICA, Vietnam has maintained sustainable economic growth over the past yearswith the construction of major infrastructure works. However, accidents atconstruction sites and conflicts during project implementation still occurreddue to limited management.

MasajumiYamauchi, chief of JICA project delegation, stressed the need to issue a systemto evaluate contractors’ capacity to raise their awareness of constructionmanagement, quality and safety.

Headof the Construction Ministry’s Department of International Cooperation Pham KhanhToan said the event is expected to improve the use of public investment inconstruction and capacity of parties concerned, issues regarding constructionbidding such as dumping and fraud.-VNA

19 localities eradicate substandard houses

Four more provinces have announced the completion of efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities achieving this milestone to 19 out of 63 nationwide, according to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Vietnam accelerates repatriation of citizens detained in Myanmar
