A JICA-assisted project has helped build schemes and policies to manage water resources and protect water environment in some localities in Vietnam.
The outcomes of the project for “Strengthening capacity of water environmental management in Vietnam” were reviewed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at a conference in Hanoi on May 15.
The project was launched in 2010 in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thua Thien-Hue, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City.
Under it, a plan to improve capacity of analysing water quality for southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and a database helping with pollution control in the Tan Quy industrial complex in Ho Chi Minh City were developed. A plan to better the environment in Hanoi was outlined.
Nearly 100 delegates shared knowledge and tools for water environment management and water pollution control.
They came up with proposals to popularise the project’s outcomes as well as follow-up action plans in the coming years.-VNA
