The new Jrai-Vietnamese dialect electronic dictionary has recently been introduced becoming the first-ever dictionary of Vietnam’s ethnic minority languages.
After two years of implementation, the Gia Lai Information and Communications Department completed the electronic-dictionary with more than 9,359 Jrai words which are listed in both Vietnamese and Jrai languages.
The dictionary is an effective way to preserve and bring into play the national cultural identity, contributing to conserving the Tay Nguyen songs recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation as an intangible cultural heritage.
Furthermore, it is a useful tool for cadres, public employees, linguists and citizens to study Jrai language and culture.
The dictionary is expected to consolidate national unity and understanding between Jrai people and other ethnic groups.
The department also made a 50-minute film on the traditions, customs and typical cultural characteristics of Jrai people./.
