Hanoi (VNA) – Localities nationwide are celebrating Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, a Year of the Monkey, in jubilant mood.
Festival-goers packed downtowns in major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and watched spectacular fireworks displays on the New Year Eve on February 7.
In the northern province of Hai Duong, all towns and districts from urban to rural areas are colourful with flags, flowers and decorations. Fireworks were also launched in two venues, in addition to traditional lion dances along the streets of the provincial city.
Thoroughfares in central province of Binh Dinh are adorned with coloured lights, banners and flowers which drew in thousands of people to celebrate the occasion.
In the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, a music show was opened by a ceremonial music performance that was recognised as a UNESCO world cultural heritage.
From February 8-10, the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre will offer free entry to the imperial citadel relics to all Vietnamese visitors, enabling them to enjoy calligraphy showcase, folk games, lion and dragon dances.
Music performances and pyrotechnic shows heated up the atmosphere in the southern provinces of Ben Tre, Bac Lieu and Kien Giang, attracting thousands of locals.
The New Year atmosphere was also in full swing across the southern province of Dong Thap, which is also celebrating its 40 th founding anniversary.-VNA
