Khanh Hoa (VNA) – TheGeneral Directorate of Fisheries and the Vietnam Association of SeafoodExporters and Producers have co-trained local fishermen in the central coastalprovince of Khanh Hoa on protecting dolphins during fishing tuna.

The course on December 14 in Nha Trang city provided fishermen with the US,Vietnam and international regulations related to seafood processing and exploitation,in which dolphins are excluded from the fishing list.

For the regulations issued by the US National Oceanic and AtmosphericAdministration (NOAA) and Earth Island Institute (ELI), tuna exporters mustsign papers confirming no dolphins are caught, killed or harmed in tuna nets.

They are also required to finish the training course on protecting dolphins.

It is one of compulsory criteria for Vietnam’s tuna products to beimported in to the US’ market.

Apart from Khanh Hoa, similar coursestook place in Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Binh Thuan and Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

Khanh Hoa’s tuna yield has hit over 26,600 tonnes since the beginning of thisyear.
