Kidnapped Vietnamese sailor rescued in Philippines

Do Trung Hieu, a kidnapped Vietnamese sailor, has been rescued by authorised agencies of the Philippines, announced the Consular Department under the Foreign Ministry on August 21.
Hanoi (VNA) – Do TrungHieu, a kidnapped Vietnamese sailor, has been rescued by authorised agencies ofthe Philippines, announced the Consular Department under the Foreign Ministryon August 21.

The department said it hascontacted with Philippine authorised agencies to verify the information andinstructed the Embassy of Vietnam in the country to prepare necessary measuresand help the rescued sailor return home.

Do Trung Hieu and five othersailors, namely Pham Minh Tuan, Hoang Vo, Tran Khuong Dung, Hoang Van Hai andHoang Trung Thong, were abducted with their Royal 16 ship off Sibagu island ofBasilan, the Philippines, in November 2016.

There were a total of 19 sailorsaboard at the time of the attack. Pirates then released the ship and 13 sailorsafter kidnapped the six people.-VNA
