Phu Yen (VNA) – The Phu Yen People’s Committee received a certificate recognising a local ancient storehouse as the national architectural relic.

“Lam Phu Lam” (Phu Lam storehouse) was built in Phu Lam ward, Tuy Hoa city of south central Phu Yen province about 400 years ago as Mandarin Luong Van Chanh reclaimed the Phu Yen region in 1611.

The wooden structure remains fairly intact. The interior was meticulously carved with traditional themes such as carps and dragons.

Apart from the function of storing farm produce harvested in the village, the house served a place for worshiping those who established the village, and a communal house.

Though it is no longer a place to store farming products, local residents worship the village founders with altars in the centre of the house.

Five decrees issued under the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) on the reclamation and establishment of Phu Yen, are kept in the house.

Vice Chairman of the Phu Yen People’s Committee Phan Dinh Phung said “Lam Phu Lam” is a unique traditional structure, serving research on Vietnam’s history.

The province has mapped out a project to preserve and promote this relic’s value.-VNA
