Ca Mau (VNA) – The southernmost province of Ca Mau has zoned 800,000 square metres of land for underprivileged Khmer ethnic residents this year.

The provincial People’s Committee said 2,500 – 4,000 square metres of land will be given to each Khmer ethnic family which has never owned any land pieces. Land will be provided for residential and farming purposes.

About 343,000 square metres of land have been given to 146 Khmer households since the year’s beginning, mostly in Thoi Binh and Tran Van Thoi districts and Ca Mau city.

Thach Thi, a Khmer resident in Ho Thi Ky commune of Thoi Binh, said he is happy for receiving the land aid, which will help him and many other families develop agricultural production and raise income.

Ca Mau province is home to around 40,000 Khmer ethnic people, most of whom live in Thoi Binh, Tran Van Thoi and Ca Mau city and suffer from poverty due to a lack of farmland.-VNA
