Lang Son to build 3,900sqkm geopark

An international conference took place in Lang Son on November 29 to discuss how to take advantage of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in building a 3,900-sqkm geopark in the northern mountainous province.

Lang Son (VNA) – An international conference tookplace in Lang Son on November 29 to discuss how to take advantage of the Public-PrivatePartnership (PPP) in building a 3,900-sqkm geopark in the northern mountainousprovince.

Held by the Lang Son People’s Committee in collaborationwith the Vietnam National University (VNU) Hanoi and FNF Vietnam, the eventgathered policymakers, academics and potential corporate partners for thebuilding of Lang Son Geopark.

Lang Son Geopark will cover the five districts of Bac Son, BinhGia, Van Quan, Huu Lung and Chi Lang, home to various ethnic minority groups anda large number of tangible and intangible cultural heritages.

Addressing the conference, Director of the provincialDepartment of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Phuc Ha said the establishmentof the geopark aims to not only preserve and promote local geological heritages and others, but also add to efforts to boost sustainable economic development,protect the environment, and effectively respond to natural disasters andclimate change in Lang Son and Northeastern provinces at large.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee DuongXuan Huyen said practices and recommendations shared by academics, experts andcorporate partners are very beneficial for Lang Son. The province will look atthem thoroughly to develop Lang Son Geopark, he said.

He went on to say that Lang Son expects to receive furthersupport and cooperation in building the geopark in the coming time. Theprovince welcomes domestic and international organisations and corporationswanting to conduct studies or finance projects on preserving and restoring ofheritages, developing tourism infrastructure and heighten public awareness ofheritage and Lang Son Geopark, he added.

The province also expects Lang Son Geopark to be soon recognizedas a global geopark by UNESCO./.

Rare sea turtle lays eggs on Lam Dong province's Hon Cau Beach

Emission standards for motorcycles to be issued in July

Under the draft, motorcycles produced before 2008 will be subject to the lowest level of inspection standards, level 1, while those manufactured from 2008 onwards will be assessed to a higher standard. Similar rules will also apply to motorised vehicles, with level 1 for those manufactured before 2016.

Vietnam consults stakeholders on climate change scenarios

The 2025 scenarios build on Vietnam’s 2020 projections, incorporating the latest findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s sixth assessment report and insights from domestic and global partners. The focus is on extreme weather events, particularly in urban areas, and rising sea levels, which threaten Vietnam’s low-lying coastal regions. The goal is to guide policymaking, urban planning, and local adaptation strategies.

Lang Son becomes Vietnam’s 4th global geopark

Lang Son Global Geopark spans over 4,842 square kilometres, roughly 58% of the province, and is home to around 627,500 people. It features a rich blend of geological wonders and cultural heritage, including stunning caves and sinkholes such as Nguom Mooc Cave, Tham Lum and Ung Roac. Its biodiversity is also protected within the Huu Lien Nature Reserve.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality
