Lao Cai (VNA) – Tourism cooperation between Lao Cai and Honghe prefecture of China’s Yunnan province was discussed at a seminar held in the northern border province of Vietnam on June 21.

The event, co-organised by the Lao Cai department of culture, sports and tourism and the culture and tourism office of Honghe prefecture, aimed to build and turn the “Two nations – Six destinations” travel tour into an official and trademark tourism product of the localities.

Six destinations of the tour include Kunming city and Honghe prefecture of Yunnan and Vietnamese localities of Lao Cai, Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

Previously, delegations of Lao Cai province and the Honghe culture and tourism office made a survey tour of Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, along with the Sa Pa national tourism site in Lao Cai from June 17 to 21.

At the seminar, the two sides inked a cooperation deal on the trial run of the tour in 2019.

Accordingly, the sides will work to simplify administrative procedures for tourists and create optimal conditions for Vietnamese and Chinese firms to operate a bus network for visitors, in line with the agreement on road transport of the two nations.

Besides, they will launch trial operation of self-drive tours in the route and boost communication activities on tourism and resources protection.

Lao Cai and Honghe will also promote cultural and art exchange activities and consider the idea of organising a Vietnam-China border art festival.

The Chinese locality was also asked to facilitate Lao Cai to carry out a survey on places in Honghe that late President Ho Chi Minh stayed at in 1940-1941 to build a tour related to the Vietnamese leader.

The friendship between Lao Cai and Yunnan in general and Honghe prefecture in particular over the years reaped positive outcomes in the fields of transport connection, finance, trade, tourism, culture, education-training and border management, said Deputy Director of the Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Dinh Dung.

The two sides have built a solid cooperation mechanism of all levels to enhance mutual trust and comprehensive development of the friendship, he noted. -VNA
