A high-ranking delegation from Vietnam ’s northern port city of Hai Phong is on a working visit to Laos from Aug. 6-12.
The delegation, led by Nguyen Van Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee cum Chairman of the People’s Council of the city, on Aug. 8 was received by Laos’ Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, Deputy PM Somsavad Lengsavath and Secretary of the Lao Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Mayor of Vientiane Soukan Mahalath.
At the receptions, Thanh briefed the hosts on the results of his working session with Vientiane authorities. He said Hai Phong and Vientiane are determined to boost their cooperation based on the agreements they have signed in the fields of education-training, agriculture and fisheries.
The Lao leaders highly valued the visit of the delegation, considering it a meaningful activity to mark the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and 35 years of the signing of the Vietnam-Lao Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
During the visit, the Vietnamese guests also visited a high school built with assistance from Hai Phong and offered incense at a monument in Ban Con where 28 Vietnamese and Lao voluntary soldiers died during the war against French colonialists.-VNA
