Lao National Day marked in Hanoi

The Vietnam – Laos Friendship Association (VLFA) in collaboration with the Lao Embassy organised a ceremony in Hanoi on November 28 to mark the 43rd anniversary of Lao National Day (December 2, 1975 – 2018).

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam – Laos FriendshipAssociation (VLFA) in collaboration with the Lao Embassy organised a ceremonyin Hanoi on November 28 to mark the 43rd anniversary of Lao NationalDay (December 2, 1975 – 2018).

Speaking at the event, VLFA President Tran Van Tuy highlightedthe fruitful growth of the traditional friendship, special solidarity, andcomprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Based on successful outcomes of the Vietnam – Laos friendshipand solidarity year 2017, the sides have implemented joint projects at nationaland local levels and expanded their people-to-people exchange, he added.

Tuy noted that bilateral engagements in education andtraining are a priority of the relations. Despite economic difficulties, thetwo governments have spent significant parts of their budgets on humanresources training, with a large number of Lao students sent to study inVietnam.

Tuy said his association has worked closely with variouseducational establishments to support Lao students in Vietnam and have organisedmany activities for them, including cultural exchanges and musical and sportevents.

He urged the Lao students to make contributions to theirhome country and to the ties between the two countries.

For his part, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam ThongsavanhPhomvihane stressed the special relations between Laos and Vietnam have beencontinuously expanding over time.

He said Vietnam’s development progress and increasing roleat regional and international forums that he witnessed during his three-yeartenure in the country is a source of encouragement for Lao people in buildingtheir country following the socialist orientation.

On the occasion, the VLFA presented certificates of meritand gifts for 16 Lao students with outstanding academic performance whilestudying in Vietnam.-VNA

Resolution adjusting 2025 socio-economic development plan adopted

Under the resolution, the legislative body decided to adjust some key targets. Accordingly, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate is set to reach 8% or higher, with the GDP scale this year expected to exceed 500 billion USD. The GDP per capita is projected to surpass 5,000 USD, and the average consumer price index (CPI) growth rate is targeted to be around 4.5 - 5%.

National Assembly adopts two revised laws

On February 19, the 15th National Assembly adopted the Law on Organisation of Local Governments (revised) and the Law on Promulgation of Legal Documents (revised).

NA greenlights investment policy of Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong rail project

According to the resolution, the construction of a modern and harmonious railway aims to meet the transport demand between Vietnam and China. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for rapid and sustainable economic development along the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong economic corridor while strengthening national defence and security and promoting the industrialisation and modernisation, contributing to delivering on the targets and missions set at the documents of the 13th National Party Congress and the Party’s resolutions.

NA deputies to approve several resolutions, laws on February 19

The deputies will pass a resolution addressing issues related to the streamlining of the political system’s organisational apparatus, a resolution on supplementation to the 2025 socio-economic development plan with a growth target of at least 8%, and another on pilot policies to remove barriers in science-technology research and innovation activities.
